BMW Italia Prep for Donnington

BMW Motorrad Italia Superbike Team - WSBK - Donington Park

Next Sunday at Donington Park, the BMW Motorrad Italy Superbike team will face the second round of the Superbike World
Championship 2011.

Unfortunately, James Toseland cannot line up for the team. He has been forced to abandon the race after suffering a fracture to the distal radius of the right wrist in a fall at the Motorland Aragon circuit, where he was riding in a private test. After being operated on at Manchester Hospital, James must convalescence for six weeks.

Consequently only Ayrton Badovini will represent the team making its Superbike season debut after winning the Superstock 2010 FIM Cup. Ayrton has already raced at Donington Park in 2008, winning points in the World Superbike race. The Italian will race in Britain with the S 1000 RR, which has been developed ater the Australian race, in which Ayrton won two World Championship points. The advances were made in private testing at the Spanish Motorland Aragon circuit.

Andrea Buzzoni, Director of BMW Motorrad Italy, said: "James’ accident is very unfortunate and just what we didn’t want.
We have been continuing a successful major development programme following the wet winter tests and the limited time that we had to prepare the bike. After an initial error in the Spanish hospital where doctors underestimated the problem with his wrist which led to complications over and above the accident damage, James is recovering with great spirit, determination and positive attitude, because - like us - he is excited about the project. He believes in it and wants to return as soon as possible. James does not want to be replaced, nor do we like to think about replacing him, but that will be assessed with time as James’ medical progress becomes apparent Ayrton, who has done a great job during testing, will be our only rider on the track. I am sure he will do well. "
